Feedback
WEEK9
General Feedback:
Teacher Max insisted on making up lessons and a detailed assessment of the assignments, even though classes were postponed due to public holidays.
Specific Feedback:
I chose three of the eight fonts I designed, and Max suggested I choose one more for further design.
WEEK10
General Feedback:
Teacher Max showed a variety of practical and accurate ways to make typefaces.
Specific Feedback:
After learning how to make fonts with auxiliary lines, my fonts became more regular and refined. Although the process was time-consuming, the results were remarkable.
WEEK11
General Feedback:The assignment requires completion of 11 letters and 4 punctuation marks (o.l.e.d.s.n c.h.t.i.g, .! #) The words designed by the teacher provided valuable suggestions and I improved them after class.
Specific Feedback:
After consulting with Teacher Max, I realized that the letter sizes were inconsistent and needed to be adjusted to ensure the consistency of the letters and punctuation, as well as the consistency of the letter weights to make the font more regular. WEEK 12: General Feedback: Re-modify the font and adjust the spacing between the font, start the next step of the poster design.
Specific Feedback:Max suggested that the side bearing on the right side of s could be bigger .
Reflection
Experience
Trying to design a personal font for the first time is an exciting and challenging experience. The main difficulty I faced was the construction of the grid system, which was initially ignored and left the typography incongruous. By repeatedly adjusting the grid, I learned to value the consistency of the size, width and height of each letter, a long and difficult but educational process.
Observation
Delving into the typography of others was crucial to my creative process. This kind of research not only provided me with a wealth of inspiration, but also allowed me to master a variety of design styles and techniques, thereby avoiding common design mistakes and improving my design skills.
Finding
Designing a coherent font family is a task that tests creativity and attention to detail. Each letter must be consistent with the overall design style, which is essential to ensure the uniformity of the font. Although using FontLab for letter creation is very efficient, the complexity of the software made it difficult for me as a beginner. I had to accurately measure the key dimensions of each letter, such as capital letter height, x height, ascending and descending, to ensure consistency in the different scheming software.
Further Reading
An exhaustive, practical primer on typography, this book delves into the fundamentals of typefaces and their use in design. The author not only details how to measure and classify fonts, but also teaches how to effectively organize text on a page and delves into the use of grid systems. These are essential for beginners in graphic design.
In addition, the book contains a brief review of the history of typography, with a large number of practical cases to explain the theory, making abstract concepts concrete and easy to understand. Each chapter is followed by a series of carefully designed exercises designed to help the reader apply the fundamentals learned to practical situations, deepening understanding and skills.
Written in an engaging, informative and practical style, this book is a valuable resource for all students interested in graphic design and typography. Whether you are a novice or a learner with a certain foundation, you can get inspiration and improvement from it.
